WHY IS NAMMA CHENNAI SPECIAL ?

The busy buzz in the central railway station, random people with genuine smiles, the majestic flyovers, the different slangs of Tamil and what not ? if you are in Chennai, you’ll never be home sick because Chennai is a home to people from all the districts of Tamil Nadu or actually to any person in this world,  so you are from Tanjore?oh you have a Karaikudi restaurant, you are from Trichi ?  The guy just opposite to your house is from Tirichy too!!You nod your head vigorously to tell me that you’re from Punjab!  Most of the Tam-Brahms here are crazy about paneer and there are enough and more Dhabas! I live in Chennai and is there anything more that I could ask for?

Chennai being the capital of Tamil Nadu, is the hub of the IT industry and provides a wide range of employment opportunities and that’s probably why you see more than three-fourth of the youth population of Tamil Nadu in Chennai. And yes all those young guys and girls wouldn't randomly land up in Chennai just because there is a lot of employment opportunities, there is definitely something more to it and that’s what I am going to be telling you about !

If you are a first timer in Chennai and you don’t know a particular bus route and you approach a random person, who you think knows, you will hear a chorus of answers from all those who heard your question, so much so that you’ll transform into a teacher for a moment and tell them “one at a time please”!  That’s how helpful all of them are! So, firstly the fear factor of a new city can be complete destroyed on your first day ,I guarantee! We are all foodies, I know there are always  two kinds of people, ones who eat a lot and never  put on weight and the others who are constantly on diet, there’s restaurants for  all kinds here ranging from Talappakatti biriyani to health based restaurants like Aiwo .

It’s a weekend and you would like to hang out with your friends, please stop thinking and step out of your house because almost every street has a hang out spot!! you could go to the Marina beach and walk along the shore with one hand on your friend’s shoulder and on the other holding a newspaper pack of sundal or an ice cream . When I started about beaches didn't the word movie just flash across somewhere, it definitely did ! We have the “Thala” fans and the “Thalapathi” fans, and oh how would I not tell you about our Superstar Rajnikanth fans and Kamal fans or if your are too cool and only want to see Ranveeir in Ram Leela....you can watch them all, there are just so many theatres like Ionox, PVR, Sathyam cinemas and yeah you could choose your theater based on the pop-corns, I know so many of them who are sincerely in love with the caramel pop corns!! I must tell you that movie in madras is a religion and the heroes and heroines are gods and goddesses!!Now to all the theists as well atheists you have enough gods  and enough nature to worship respectively! The Mylapore Kapaleeshwaram temple, the Santhome Church, the Makkah Masjid or the thousand light mosque, you could go anywhere to come in terms with your soul and find peace !Just to add some life to your life there is just so much of dance and music in Chennai , a lady stringing jasmines outside the Music academy or R.K Swami Hall  can clearly distinguish between an ‘Abheri’  ragam and Mohanam ragam !

All said and done Chennai might give you an excellent education, lucrative jobs, interesting hang out spots, soothing music, positive energy in the air ,but to make any place special the people there are the most important factor and I can vouch for the fact that Chennai has the sweetest people on earth, yes you might have seen irritated auto drivers, annoying neighbours, authoritative strangers but believe me they are just a few and even they are all down to earth people. Chennai has wonderful people because there is such a rich mix of culture that you just cannot see elsewhere. So if you were to ask me why Chennai is so special, I would tell you that Chennai has so much of love, much more than all the world’s love put together. So I am just warning you Chennai is addictive and I mean it ! Absolutely proud to be a chennaite because “ithu namma chennai pa “

List of Confessions

Photo by  Álvaro Serrano  on  Unsplash One, You should try writing a love letter to yourself, I have written one to myself, it took me 17 years to complete it, that's also how long it took  for me to decide  if I loved myself. Two, I believe that the heart is flat  in our minds, that's why it is so easy to  rekindle a wound and also why  everything is just a finger's distance from healing. Three, I forgot my own phone number at a cafe coffee day counter, she kept repeating  the first few numbers that I had uttered without giving me space to think, maybe we are all her  when it comes to counting our mistakes. Four, I have a thing for languages, both for those I understand and those that I don't,  I would listen to hours and hours of urdu poetry  without knowing what it meant, maybe that is also one kind of silence. Five, I have thought too often about  what I would name myself  if not for what I have been named, everyt...

Poetry

Photo by Kelly Sikkema on Unsplash What If poems read each other, would they fall in love with each other, or their poets or would they elope in search of the long lost lovers these poets barely take the name of but have a minimum of 15 lines, a winter and an unanswering sky  in their poems? Friendship Factory

Friendship factory Cherry-dropped cakes stacked across glassed counters, my tiny pony tail dances in excitement, friendship oozes out of my eyes, as a 5-year-old, chocolate was my best friend; 19 years old now, nothing has changed. Yet again, like closely knit sweaters, it was family that taught us to share these cakes, it was family that taught us friendship. As the clock strikes four, door bells also ring. Our badminton rackets giggle at all our wrongs shots, the cars that we framed as our hiding spots might still want our fingers to run over its glasses to trace random patterns, I’m sure our cycles have heard our voices more than mobile phones, dear childhood friend, our friendship always rhymes with joy and innocence. We make all kinds of friends- that “When is the next train?” friend, “can you edit my picture?” friend, “I don’t understand this!” friend, “I now want coffee.” friend, “what is life?” friend and “Can I not wake up today!” friend. We are also friends with a ...
